Aitape Port (above) is part of a small coastal township in the Sandaun province of Papua New Guinea. It is midway between Vanimo and Wewak and was established as a station by German colonists in 1905 as part of German New Guinea. | | Wharf Facilities | Crane There are no wharf mounted. Cranes and vessels use own gear for discharge/ loading however, mobile cranes are available and are capable of lifting up to 10-15 tonne containers only. Shippers are advised though to check with port agents prior to shipping. With heavier loads, prior advice and approval must be sought from port agent and relevant Port Authority.
Storage Area Under cover: 125sq.m (13.7m x 9.1m) Open storage: 1,000sq.m.
Slipway, Ship Repairs & Maintenance None, however there is a new dry dock facility which is in operation at Motukea (Port Moresby) by Curtain Brothers (PNG) Ltd.
Waste Disposal No waste disposal facility is available. Arrangement for disposal can also be done with the Port Agent and National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA).
